PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce influence of dynamic pressure of recirculation exhaust gas by a chamber of small volume which can be arranged between a cylinder head and an intake manifold, and to realize equal distribution of the recirculation exhaust gas. SOLUTION: The exhaust gas recirculation device for an engine comprises the slender chamber 20in a cylinder train line direction on a spacer 7 arranged between the intake manifold 4 and the cylinder head 3, an upstream collecting passage 21 extending in the cylinder train direction and connected to the chamber 20, a first upstream branch passage 22 and a second upstream branch passage 23 connected to the chamber 20 at a offset position from a connection position of the upstream collecting passage 21 in the direction perpendicular to the cylinder train direction; and the respective downstream branch passages 24-27 branched therefrom. The chamber 20 and the upstream collecting passage 21 are stored in a space of a lower part of an intake port wall, and an EGR passage is formed so that an expanding chamber C is partitioned by a tip end part of the upstream collecting passage 21 and the chamber 20.
