PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cellulose ester improved with its optical characteristics while maintaining a high peeling property against a metal supporting body. SOLUTION: This cellulose ester contains (1)≥0.4 mol % mannose content based on the total constituting saccharide components, or (2) <3 ratio (molar ratio) of xylose content to the mannose content, 10-70 ppm calcium content (weight basis, hereinafter the same is applied), and 0.3-1.0 chemical equivalent ratio of calcium against the total sulfuric acid. Further the amount of the total sulfuric acid may be 1-200 ppm. The cellulose ester is useful as an optical film (e.g. protective film for a polarizing plate), etc. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
