The holder for a flag (11), at a flagpole (1), has a flag winding rod (3) which is powered by a wind wheel (9) and a centrifugal force coupling (5) to retract the flag by pull cables (7) when the wind force exceeds a given level. The winding rod has wire guide eyelets (6) at the top and bottom. The wires pass through the upper and lower flag seams (10), secured at their ends by limit nipples (8).
