PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus for selecting a signal used as an image signal from a signal imaged by a different photoelectric conversion characteristic for each luminance range. SOLUTION: A solid-state imaging element alternately applies logarithmic conversion and linear conversion to an image signal and thereafter stores the image signal at the logarithmic conversion and linear conversion for each pixel into a memory in a gradation conversion circuit. Then the gradation conversion circuit selects and outputs the image signal subjected to the linear conversion applied to the pixels within a luminance range lower than a prescribed luminance and selects and outputs the image signal subjected to the logarithmic conversion applied to the pixels within a luminance range higher than the prescribed luminance.
