<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical module and an optical transmitter suitable for communication employing a multimode optical fiber. <P>SOLUTION: The optical module comprises a surface-emitting semiconductor laser 10 emitting a polarized light oriented preferentially to two given polarization axes, while oscillating in multimode, and an optical member 30 selectively exhibiting at least one of transmission function, reflection function, refraction function and diffraction function with respect to a specific polarized light. The optical member 30 is arranged, such that the major surface 30a intersects the advancing direction of light emitted from the surface-emitting semiconductor laser 10 and so that the polarization axis of the plane of polarization 30a does not overlap the polarization axis of the light emitted from the surface-emitting semiconductor laser 10. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
