<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst carrier made of a metal capable of suppressing the adverse effect of heat stress due to a temperature difference exerted on the outer peripheral part of a honeycomb structure by reducing the temperature difference between the center part and outer peripheral part of the honeycomb structure. <P>SOLUTION: In the catalyst carrier made of the metal obtained by pressing the honeycomb structure 1, which is formed by alternately superposing corrugated sheets 11 and flat sheets 12 each comprising a metal thin sheet one upon another to wind them multiply, into an outer cylinder 2 made of a metal and heat-treating them to join the corrugated sheets 11 and the flat sheets 12 as well as the outer cylinder 2 and the honeycomb structure 1, a plurality of holes 11a and 12a for enabling the flow of an exhaust gas in the radial direction of the honeycomb structure 1 are formed only to the corrugated sheet 11 and flat sheet 12 at a wound layer part B on the outer peripheral side excepting the center part of the honeycomb structure 1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
