1,120,559. Casting machines; casting connector straps on battery plates. TIEGEL MANUFACTURING CO. 20 Oct., 1966 [22 Oct., 1965], No. 47101/66. Heading B3F. [Also in Division H1] A battery carrier 63 is pivoted from a position in which the battery is inserted and clamped to a position in which it is held upside down and moulds 111 are raised up around lugs on the battery plates to cast connector straps thereon. A pair of parallel arms 65 carry clamps 75 and 81 and supports 77 and 83 mounted on rods 71 and 73. Supply of air to cylinder 89 operates a piston which acts through toggles 97 and 99 and rods 71 and 73 to clamp the battery. When the battery is inverted (broken lines), the moulds 111 are raised from a reservoir 107 of molten lead to contact the battery plate lugs and cast the connector straps. The moulds are cooled by passing coolant through ducts 117. |
