PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hologram recording material for obtaining sufficiently high diffraction efficiency and to provide a hologram recording medium using the above material. SOLUTION: The hologram recording medium 100 has a structure that a recording layer 40 is held between a substrate 20 and a protective layer 60. The recording layer 40 consists of the hologram recording material of this invention containing a sulfide compound having a cyclic sulfide structure, a compound having a different refractive index from that of a polymer of the sulfide compound, and a photo-anion polymerization initiator.
