The toothbrush handle (10) has a coupling (30) for mechanical attachment of a brush head (20), operated by an electric drive within the handle, the control function for the drive having an operation locking function activated and de-activated by removal and attachment of the brush head, via a brush head release function (38). The handle has a read function and a coupling coil, for transmission and reading of data used for activation and de-activation of the operation locking function.
