To easily provide a diamond tool having excellent cutting performance and long tool life by forming a single layered or multilayered thin film on the surface of the tool. In a diamond tool having a cutting surface, the diamond tool comprises a coating layer formed of one or more selected from the group consisting of TiC, TiCN, TiAlN, CrC and CrN on the surface of the cutting surface, wherein the coating layer is a single layer or multilayers, wherein the diamond tool is a PCBN diamond tool or PCD diamond tool, wherein the coating layer is formed by a CVD or PVD method, wherein thickness of the coating layer is 0.5 to 10 mum, and wherein a cutting surface of the diamond tool before coating has a central line average roughness(Ra) of 0.1 to 100 mum.
