PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a formation apparatus of a full-color image of stable high image quality while realizing excellent usability, in an image forming apparatus to or from which an intermediate transfer body unit holding and conveying a developer image on an image carrier is attached or detached. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 1 includes, for instance, an ascending/descending cam 210 by which an intermediate transfer body unit 31 having an intermediate transfer belt 30, which holds and carries a toner image formed on a photoreceptor drum by a processing cartridge 26, is brought into contact with or separated from a photoreceptor drum. The intermediate transfer body unit 31 can be attached to or detached from the image forming apparatus 1. In the image forming apparatus 1, the ascending/descending cam 210 has a projection 210a which energizes the intermediate transfer body unit 31 to the reference face 301a of the main body of the image forming apparatus when the intermediate transfer body unit 31 comes into contact with the photoreceptor drum of the processing cartridge 26.
