An isolated recombinant host cell suitable for degrading an oligosaccharide comprising: (a) a first heterologous polynucleotide segment encoding a first endoglucanase having a fist degrading activity, wherein the segment is under the transcriptional control of a surrogate promoter; (b) a second heterologous polynucleotide segment encoding a second endoglucanase having a second degrading activity, wherein the segment is under the transcriptional control of a surrogate promoter; and (c) a polynucleotide segment expressing an additional enzyme, wherein the first and second endoglucanase are expressed so that the firs and second degrading activities are present in a ratio such that the degrading of the oligosaccharide by the first and second endoglucanase is synergized and wherein the first endoglucanase is encoded by celZ and the second endoglucanase is encoded by celY, and wherein celZ and celY are derived from Erwinia; and a method for making the recombinant host cell. |
