Here is disclosed a milking cup comprising a housing (2) and a rubber teat which is placed in the housing. The rubber teat separates a teat chamber (16) from a pulse chamber (9) and comprises an upper region (20), a shaft region (10) and a lower region (12) which communicates with a milk channel connection piece (14). A first aim of the milking cup is to ensure that the treatment of a teat placed in the teat chamber (16) is carried out more carefully. To this end, at least the lower longitudinal section of the shaft region takes the form of a longish cross-section, the wide sides of said cross- section being respectively provided with at least one region (34,36) having a thicker wall than the opposite longitudinal sides of the cross-section, at a right angle to the direction of the width. A second aim of the milking cup is to relieve the tip of the teat. To this end, part of the shaft region surrounding the teat has a thinner wall.
