SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR ENHANCED COMPUTER TELEPHONY INTEGRATION AND INTERACTION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system which facilitates interaction and integration between a private branch exchange (PBX) and a client computer on a computer network. SOLUTION: An enhanced telephony (ET) server is connected to a PBX and all instances of the ET clients running on a user computer. The ET server functions as a proxy between the ET clients and the PBX. The ET client is registered with the ET server for an internal phone. Then, the ET server can transfer a telephone action request (such as making a telephone call) to the PBX providing a service for the internal phone from the registered ET client. In addition, the ET server can relay a telephone event (such as an incoming call) from the PBX to all of the registered clients. The ET server facilitates a seamless integration among functions of the telephone and personal computer and provides an integrated environment for wide array of user-controlled computers and the telephones for a user.
