An apparatus for testing a display panel is provided to make it possible to transfer a big panel safely without damage. A test stage receives a rectangular display panel. A transfer unit(36) transfers the rectangular display panel to the test stage. The transfer unit includes at least one of carriers(62,64) which transfer the rectangular display panel with supporting it releasably from both edges in an X direction and both edges in a Y direction. Each of the carriers includes an X holder(94) for supporting an edge of the rectangular display panel in the X direction thereof, a Y holder(96) for supporting an edge thereof in the Y direction thereof, an X movement unit(106) for moving the X holder to the X direction and a Y movement unit(108) for moving the Y holder to the Y direction.
