A tachograph comprises a recording paper P carried on rotating disc 9, a pen C, a watch mechanism driving the disc 9 e. g. at one revolution per day and a circular indicating plate 19 also driven by the watch mechanism and carrying markings Figs. 5, 7 and 9, (not shown) viewed through a window or slit in the front face of the instrument Fig. 1 (not shown) to provide an indication of the amount of unused recording paper. In Fig. 3, the driving means between the watch mechanism and plate 19 includes gear 23 which drives gear 17 to which the plate is attached and which may be disengaged by action of lever 30 e. g. by opening the case, to allow resetting of the plate 19. An alternative arrangement of actuating levers may be employed Fig. 14 (not shown). Gear 17 has a detent 33 so that full usage of the paper P is indicated continuously after one revolution. To return the indicator plate to zero there is provided either a helical spring, a suitable knob connected to the gearing Fig. 10 (not shown), or a cam and lever arrangement Fig. 13 (not shown). A second indicating plate may be provided turning at a slower speed than the plate 19 in a series of jumps to indicate, for example, days, Fig. 11 (not shown). The watch mechanism also drives clock hands on the face of the instrument, and the clock hands, recording disc and indicating plate may all be reset simultaneously in synchronism. The face also carries a speedometer hand. |
