PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup unit which can remotely be controlled by simple operations without needing special operational skills for a photographer. SOLUTION: An operating side image pickup unit and an operated side image pickup unit which enable data communication via a network, are connected. In the operating side image pickup unit, when an instruction to perform a remote operation is inputted to the other image pickup unit, converts information or an instruction to operate the present device into a control code to remotely operate the operated side image pickup unit and transmits the control code to the other image pickup unit, and the operated side image pickup unit, when an instruction to be remotely operated is inputted to the present unit, receives the control code transmitted from the operating side image pickup unit and sets it as information or an instruction to operate the present unit, so that the operated side image pickup unit connected over the network can be remotely controlled from the operating side image pickup unit.
