Grommets 6, 8 of asbestos, chloroprene or silicon rubber are compressed by a clamping means 20 to form a fluid-tight seal between enamel-coated, heat-exchanger tubes 1, 3 and a tube plate 5. The grommets are formed from sleeves and are folded over rings of graphitecoated asbestos rope. The tubes pass through openings in a compression plate 22, are clamped in position by a plate 24 and may have grommets 6 or 8 at each end thereof or a grommet 6 at one end and a grommet 8 at the other end. |
