The washing machine has a cylindrical washing liquid container enclosing a rotary laundry drum, supported by a shaft pin (7) at the drum base, fitting through an opening (4) in the base (3) of the washing liquid container and supported by at least 2 bearings (8) within a bearing housing. A seal between the shaft pin and the opening has dynamic seal components (12,13,14) associated with a shaft pin ring (15) and a static seal component (23,29) provided by the washing liquid container. The seal is shielded from contact with the washing liquid by a ring (24) enclosing the shaft pin, having a V-shaped or U-shaped cross-section.
