Each end cover (7,8) includes an assembly of a ceramic disc and a plastic unit. The plastic unit is fitted in the spiral slot of the ceramic disc. The open channel of the plastic unit faces an impeller (9) to form a side channel (12,13). The open channel tapers in cross-section from a pump inlet (3) to a pump outlet (4).
