A bracket assembly for securing at least a first seating section (12) and a second seating section (14) to form a modular seating assembly (10) is provided. The bracke t assembly includes a pair of laterally extending studs (50) mounted to the first seating sectio n (12), and a pair of brackets (80, 82) mounted to the second seating section (14) including a vertical member (90) for engaging the pair of laterally extending studs (50). The pair of bracket s include a first bracket (80) having a receiving portion (90) and a retaining mechanism (100) for releasably securing one of the laterally extending studs (50), and a second bracket (82) having a receiving portion (90) for engaging the other one of the laterally extending studs (50).
