The facing panel (4) incorporating a decorative element (2) is made by cutting a peripheral groove (5) round the inside of an inner frame and inserting a metal or plastic molding or extrusion (10) between its side walls (7, 8) to receive the edge of the decorative element. Where the panel is assembled from separate components e.g. to make a cupboard door, the groove can be cut in the components prior to assembly.
