PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a calibration gas introducing method and a gas detector therefor capable of introducing calibration gas without being affected by external disturbance, and of carrying out surely expected calibration work under the condition installed in a measured position. SOLUTION: In this gas detector provided with a sheath tube with a gas introducing opening formed in a peripheral wall of a tip side portion, a sensor unit arranged in a tip side portion inside the sheath tube, and provided with a gas cell having a gas flow-in port, and a dust filter having an outside diameter fit to a size of an inside diameter of the sheath tube, and contact-held detachably by an inner circumferential face of the sheath tube to close the gas introducing opening, the calibration gas supplied from a calibration gas supplying member provided to be extended along a tube axis of the sheath tube inside the sheath tube is introduced from an end face of the dust filter to diffuse into the dust filter, and is introduced into the gas cell from the gas flow-in port via a cavity formed between the dust filter and the sensor unit, so as to solve the problem hereinbefore solved in the present invention.
