<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a high fail-safe function by ensuring the power generating function of a motor generator even upon occurrence of an abnormality in an inverter controlling a motor generator. <P>SOLUTION: An inverter 11 is connected with a field control circuit section 63 for regulating a field current being conducted to the rotor coil 15b of a motor generator 15 and a regulator 67 selectively through a select switch 66 wherein a motor function and a power generating function are normally combined by the field current from the field control circuit section 63. When abnormality of the inverter 11 is detected and the select switch 66 is connected with the regulator 67, the regulator 67 compares the battery voltage between voltage dividing resistors 69a and 69b connected with a 42V power supply line with a preset reference voltage and controls the field current such that the battery voltage matches the reference voltage.
