PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transfer unit, having an inexpensive and miniaturized separating mechanism which can reduce fluctuations of a nip of a Bk transfer roller due to the abutment/separation of a color frame or the influence of bends or vibration of a transfer belt, and to provide an image forming apparatus having the same. SOLUTION: In the abutment/separation mechanism of the YMC color transfer rollers 1, the axis of rotation is the shaft of a backup roller 12 having the function of stabilizing the nip of the transfer rollers 1, and the backup roller 12 is installed at the side of the color transfer rollers to the Bk transfer roller or at the other side of the color transfer rollers reverse to the Bk transfer roller.
