The ladder (1) is for use on a boat and comprises two rails (3a,3b) and several rungs (4) between them. It is wholly above the water line in a first position (A) and in a second position (B) at least partly beneath the water line (7). In the first position, the ladder can be raised and placed in a space on the boat (8). This space extends in a horizontal surface. In it, are guides for accommodation of the rails of the ladder. The ladder can be moved manually in and out of the space or by at least one spindle fitted parallel to a rail in the space. The ladder is fixed to the stern stem (2) of the boat.
