The method of providing services over a network involves transmitting a service message common to all users from a service provider to a distribution computer of the network. A charging message is transmitted from the distribution computer to a charging system. This message contains a code for the service. Access is provided to a service user database by means of the code. For those users selected in the database, payment is secured for the service. Thereafter, the distributer provides the service to those users from whom a payment has been successfully secured.
