PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a malfunction prevention device for an engine starter capable of preventing the malfunction of a starter motor due to the adhesion of conductive foreign matters on a start member at low cost. SOLUTION: This malfunction prevention device prevents the malfunction of the starter motor due to the adhesion of conductive foreign matters on the start member in the engine starter composed of a battery 10, the starter motor 40 and the start member 22 arranged therebetween and supplying electric power to the starter motor from the battery via the start member. A control circuit 25 including a voltage detection part 31 detecting a voltage applied to the start member 22, a current detection part 34 detecting a current to the start member, and a determination part 37 determine the adhesion of conductive foreign matters based on detection results of both detection parts is provided between the start member 22 and the starter motor 40.
