A card reader into which an electronic card can be inserted, has an insulated housing (1), in which is formed a sliding space (101) and an ejection mechanism (2) which contains a slide unit (23) which can be pushed into the interior of the slide space (101) of the insulated housing and has a covering plate (20), a first slide element (21) and a second slide element (22). The slide elements (21,22) are fixed by a locking connection on the two opposite facing slides of the covering plate and thus form a receptacle (204) for the electronic card being inserted.
