PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide toner having good dispersibility of a colorant and a wide color reproduction range, capable of adequately improving transparency and luster property, and giving high image quality comparable to that of a full color image formed by silver salt photography or printing. SOLUTION: The toner is obtained in a particle shape while forming an adhesive base in an aqueous medium by reacting an active hydrogen group-containing compound with a polymer capable of reacting with the active hydrogen group-containing compound and contains an insoluble pigment converted from a soluble pigment precursor. Preferred aspects include an aspect where the adhesive base contains a polyester, an aspect where the polyester contains a urea modified polyester, and an aspect where the soluble pigment precursor is shown by the formula (1): A(D)x wherein A represents the residue of at least one chromophore, A bonds to x D via N contained in part of A; D represents H or a group shown by formula (2), at least one of the symbols D represents a group shown by the formula (2); and x represents an integer of 1-4.
