Prior to backfeeding brines are filtered by using a fine org. plastic (of particles size 10-200 mu m) as filter aid, precipitating previously the metal ions as carbonates and/or hydroxides, removing the pptd. metals by HCl, and re-using the purified brines and the purified filter aid which eventually may contain BaSO4 pptd. from the electrolyte. Advantage over prior art is that also a part of the contaminants removed from the brines are utilized as filter substances. Filtering rates of up to 8000 litres/m2. hr can be attained. |
