A fastening device for releasably connecting two members, e.g. a safety seat belt and an anchorage therefor comprises a frame 16 adapted to receive a tongue 14 having a step 29 on at least one edge thereof, a release lever 24 pivoted on or in the frame and a pawl 22 of which the ends are received in aligned shaped openings 21, 23 in the frame and release lever and which is adapted to engage the step 29 when the tongue is inserted into the frame. As shown, the frame 16 having two parallel side walls is secured by a bolt 18 in a housing 15, and the limbs of release lever 24, are keyed on a pin 25 loaded by a torsion spring 27 which holds the release lever in the connected position of the device as shown, the pawl 22 being disposed between the step 29 in the tongue and the upper corners of the openings 23 in the lever limbs. Release of the tongue is effected by pressing inwardly the push-button 31 to move the lever 24 in an anti-clockwise direction about the pin 25, the pawl moving angularly about the upper edge thereof so that upward force exerted by the tongue moves the release lever in an anti-clockwise direction to carry the pawl clear of the step 29 and to release the tongue. Release of the push-button allows the parts to be returned by the spring 29 to the positions shown. Return of the pawl may be assisted by a torsion spring on the pin 25. Preferably a spring 35 ejects the released tongue from the frame. |
