LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY FOR MITIGATING DETERIORATION OF CONTRAST

PURPOSE: An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to mitigate the deterioration of contrast caused by reflection of external light due to a black matrix by producing a phase difference between incident light and projected light of the LCD. CONSTITUTION: An LCD includes a liquid crystal layer(4) interposed between a pair of substrates(2,3) and polarizers(6,8) arranged on the sides of the substrates opposite to the liquid crystal layer. The LCD further includes a metal layer for reflecting light and a reflected light prevention member(5) for preventing the light reflected by the metal layer from being projected to a display plane from the corresponding polarizer. The metal layer is formed on the substrate of a display plane. The reflected light prevention member is disposed between the substrate of the display plane and the corresponding polarizer. The reflected light prevention member uses a quarter wave plate or a combination of a half wave plate and a quarter wave plate.
