[Also in Division A5] The invention comprises the title compound in racemic or optically active form, and its physiologically compatible acid addition salts. It is prepared by (a) removing the protecting groups from, e.g. the N-benzyl, phthalyl, toluenesulphonyl or formyl derivatives, (b) reacting 2,6-xylenol (or its phenoxide) with XCH 2 (NH 2 )CHMe (where X is a reactive ester substituent) or 2-methylaziridine, or (c) reducing the corresponding imine, oxime or hydrazone. The racemate may be resolved using D - 3 - bromocamphor - 8 - sulphonic acid or dibenzoyl-D-tartaric acid.
