<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for automatically polishing a complex shape by controlling a motion of a polishing tool and a motion of magnetic fluid within a magnetorheological fluid. <P>SOLUTION: As shown in the figure, the polishing method creates a polishing zone (10) within the magnetorheological fluid (2), and determines the characteristics of the contact part between the object and the polishing zone necessary to polish the object (4). The method controls the consistency of the fluid (2) in the polishing zone (10), brings the object (4) into contact with the polishing zone (10) of the fluid (2), and moves at least one of the object (4) and the fluid (2) with respect to the other.
