PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To attain thinning, the reduction of power consumption, the shortening of control time and the simplification of a control sequence or the like in a lens driving device. SOLUTION: In the lens driving device provided with variable power lens optical systems 40 and 50, a focusing lens optical system 60, a first driving mechanism 70 to drive the variable power lens optical systems and a second driving mechanism 80 to drive the focusing lens optical system or the like, the front side lens optical system (the second lens group 50) made to collapse by the first driving mechanism 70 is positioned at a collapsible position by pushing in the back side lens optical system (the third lens group 60) at a collapsing time when photographing is not performed. Thus, the device is made thin, and the power consumption is reduced only by a portion as the second driving mechanism is not driven at the time of collapsing operation, and the control time is shortened as a whole because driving control is unnecessitated, and the control sequence is simplified.
