1,227,051. Rolling. SOC. NOUVELLE SPIDEM. 20 Feb., 1969 [20 Feb., 1968], No. 9346/69. Heading B3M. [Also in Division F2] A roll adjusting assembly comprises a member 6, 7 slidable in the mill housing 1, 2 at each end of the roll 3 by pressure devices 8, 9, 25, 26 and lockable and releasable relative to the housing by a controllable pressure device in the form of a bush 17, 18 which is normally tightly engaged with the member but which can be radially expanded by hydraulic pressure through ducts 21, 22. The fluid flow to the bushes is controlled by a device which is normally biased so that the ducts 21, 22 are connected to exhaust. The upper pressure devices 25, 26 are connected rigidly to the housings and supplied with low pressure hydraulic fluid from a regulator 29, 30. The regulator has a pair of pistons 31, 32 on a common rod 33 whose travel is limited by adjustable abutments 36, 38. The pressure chambers of the regulator are connected to a low pressure source through a second control device normally biased to connect the chambers to discharge. The lower pressure devices 8, 9 permanently urge the chocks 4, 5 towards the upper devices 25, 26. The lower roll 10 may be provided with the same positioning apparatus. Alternatively control piston and cylinder devices 15, 16 connected to clamping devices 13, 14 are used. In operation high pressure fluid is supplied to ducts 21, 22 to expand the bushes 17, 18 and simultaneously the duct 41 is supplied with low pressure fluid to displace the pistons 31, 32 and move the piston-rods 23, 24 of the devices 25, 26. The devices 25, 26 move the members 6, 7 against the force of the balancing devices 8, 9. The connection of the abutments at the end of the travel of the rod 33 causes the ducts 21, 22 to be connected to exhaust.
|
