PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector which is improved in heat insulating property and heat radiation property, which is small in size and which can maintain favorable performance for a long time. SOLUTION: The projector 1 is equipped with: a light source device 211; an integrator illumination optical system 21 to converge and homogenize the light flux from the light source device 211; a color separation optical system 22 to separate a plurality of color light into monochromatic light; a light guide optical system 23 to guide the light flux from the color separation optical system 22 into an optical unit 24; a projection lens 3 to project the light modulated and synthesized by the optical unit; an upper light guide 252 to hold the light source device 211, the integrator illumination optical system 21, the color separation optical system 22 and the light guide optical system 23; and a lower light guide 251 to hold the optical unit 24 and the projection lens 3.
