PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a voice communication system and method for transmitting/receiving a call control signal necessary for voice communication even when a signal line used for data transmission/reception of a serial interface is occupied. SOLUTION: This voice communication system comprises a terminal and communication equipment which is connected to the terminal through a terminal side serial interface and a communication equipment side serial interface and outputs the voice communication data received through a network to the terminal through the communication equipment side serial interface. In the voice communication system, the communication equipment side serial interface has a signal line for data transmission and a signal line for data reception, and the communication equipment notifies the terminal of the communication control signal received through the network while the signal line for data transmission is in the middle of communication continuation with the terminal through the other signal line.
