A polyester resin which comprises (a-1) 45 to 99 mol% units of a C5 or lower hydroxycarboxylic acid, (a-2) 0.5 to 27.5 mol% units of an aromatic dicarboxylic acid, and (a-3) 0.5 to 27.5 mol% units of a C4 or lower aliphatic diol, the sum of (a-1) to (a-3) being 95 mol% or larger, and has a density rho (kg/cm<3>) satisfying the relationship rho>=1349+Mx0.85, wherein M is the content of the hydroxycarboxylic acid (mol%).
