PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector that obtains high quality projection images in various use, such as movie and presentation. SOLUTION: The projector comprises: a super high pressure mercury lamp 101 being a light source which supplies light; spatial light modulating devices 110R, 110G and 110B for rays of light in respective colors, which modulate light from the super high pressure mercury lamp 101 in accordance with image signals; and a projection lens 114 which projects the light modulated. The projector further has an optical filter 130 for filtering a prism group 210, which is disposed in the optical path on the light emission sides of the spatial light modulating devices 110R, 110G and 110B. The optical filter 130 includes positioning parts 230a and 230b which make the angles of the spatial light modulating devices 110R, 110 G and 110B relative to the the prism group 210 constant.
