The machine has a frame with support for wood, and a splitting blade to cut and split the wood in direction of fiber. The machine frame (1) has at least one upright column (4). The splitting blade is moved along the column into a lower end position, where it engages on a splitting table (6). A supply track (7) for wood is located in front of the column and a discharge track (8) is positioned behind it. The blade is moved in a slide on either side of pref. U-shaped profiled columns, and is moved by a hydraulic power cylinder (10) between the end positions, after initiating the splitting stage and after its end. Supply and discharge tracks are formed by a conveyor belt (11) with side guide walls (12).
