(A) Cmpds. (I) R1 and R2 = H, Hal., lower alkyl, lower O-alkyl, CO2H, CONH2, lower carbalkoxy, carbobenzoxy, SO2 or SO2NH2. R3 = H or (1-3C) alkyl, R4 = a 5 or 6-membered, monocyclic, unsatd. heterocyclic residue, opt. substd. by one or more NO2, CN, OH, lower alkyl, lower O-alkyl, CO2H and/or lower carbalkoxy. (B) Salts of (I). Anti-bacterials esp. active vs. E.coli or B.proteus. Dose 50-600 mg. Acute toxicity 500-1000 mg/kg. (p.o, rat). Pyridine-3-aldehyde-p-hydroxyphenylhydrazone, m.p. 195 deg.
