Polyepoxide resins for use in electrical insulation

Polyepoxide resins are prepd. by reacting phthalic anhydride with cycloaliphatic polyepoxides of glycidylcarboxylic esters (I). A=a polyfunctional aliphatic hydrocarbyl group, opt. contg. oxygen and/or cycloaliphatic groups, or the reside of a cycloaliphatic hydrocarbyl group; Pref. in (I), R is H; the two substituents of the cyclohexyl ring are in vicinal positions; n is 2-4; and A is the di-or tetrafunctional residue of a 2-10C aliphatic hydrocarbyl group, which can be interrupted by oxygen atoms or a cyclohexyl ring, or is the difunctional residue of a 6-15C cycloaliphatic hydrocarbyl group. The polyepoxide resins are esp. useful as electrical insulations for outride use. The resins have excellent resistance to weathering, and have good mechanical and electrical properties.
