Use of siderophores (I) for control of odor-producing germs (A). An independent claim is also included for cosmetic or pharmaceutical compositions that contain at least one (I). ACTIVITY : Antibacterial; Dermatological. In an agar diffusion test (24 hours at 37[deg]C), desferroxamine E, at 2 mg/ml, produced inhibition zones of diameter 4 mm with Staphylococcus epidermidis; 5 mm with S. hominis and 0.5-1 mm with Corynebacterium CDC G2. MECHANISM OF ACTION : Inhibiting growth of bacteria by rendering iron unavailable.
