1,158,360. Bending and tempering glass sheets. COMPAGNIE DE SAINT-GOBAIN. 15 July, 1968 [13 July, 1967; 10 May, 1968], No. 33591/68. Heading C1M. Sheet glass 9 is tempered by contact with rigid, cooled member 1 and a flexible sheet 4 of glass fibre or metal gauze, rendered impermeable by C silicone resin or p.t.f.e., and under the influence of a pressure fluid which also cools the sheet. An embodiment in which the glass sheet is slung vertically in a glass fibre bag and in which two rams bring the rigid and flexible mould members together is also disclosed. Fig. 4 shows a similar apparatus for both bending and tempering the sheet between rigid, cooled mould 101 and flexible sheet 105. A glass fibre sling 108 receives the glass sheet 112 from a table construction 114 after it is heated in kiln 144. The table 114 consists of two halves moving together transversely of the glass path and under the influence of rams, locating devices also operated by rams also being provided. The glass sheet initially rests on rollers [Figs. 6 and 7], [116], is then raised from them by wheels [119] to enable the half-tables to be moved apart to deposit the glass on the sling 108, and then subjected to the pressing operation. |
