A process of preparing hydrophilic coatings for plastic substrates comprises the steps of preparing a mixture containing one or more hydrophilic polymers selected from polymers and copolymers of N-vinyl lactams and hydrophilic polyurethanes with one or more dendritic polymers and of cross-linking said hydrophilic polymer onto said substrate by means of said dendritic polymer(s).
