PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture projection device and a picture projection method performing sufficiently safety processing without disturbing viewing remarkably such that a screen gets completely dark suddenly in the midst of projecting a picture in the case of performing control to decrease or intercept projected light to a picture projection area by detecting entrance when a person enters the optical path of the projected light. SOLUTION: The picture projection device where the projected light corresponding to image information is projected by a projection means 10, two or more monitor areas 14 to 16 for monitoring the entrance of an entering body 19 are provided.
