PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a baseplate plywood for overlay which is suitable for overlay, although a veneer having an early wood part and a late wood part remarkably different in hardness from each other naturally is positioned at the outermost surface layer to be overlaid. SOLUTION: This baseplate plywood for overlay is constituted by a method wherein the veneer having the early wood part and the late wood part remarkably different in the hardness from each other naturally are laminated and bonded to the outermost surface layer to be overlaid. Besides, the early wood part of the veneer for the outermost surface layer is made so compact as not to be plastically deformed with the overlay, while the late wood part is held in the initial state in the veneer, prevented from sinking into the veneer of the next layer or being deformed in buckling. Moreover, a portion including the late wood part which projects from the compacted early wood part is removed and thereby the surface side of the veneer for the outermost surface layer is flattened.
