<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a glassy carbon plate whereby the anisotropy of shrinkage factor is decreased, suppressing warping or deformation. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing the glassy carbon plate comprises subjecting a platy resin molded piece having grooved parts on both the front and back sides to carbonization firing. In the vertical projected area of the front-side grooved parts and the back-side grooved parts of the platy resin molded piece, the ratio of the area (B) of parts at which groove valley line shapes of both the front and rear sides cross each other at right angles to the vertical projected area (A) of parts at which both the front and rear sides are groove valley parts is set at 15-100%.
